Q - I do hope you are able to offer some advice. My mother has Waldenstrom's disease, an overproduction of immunoglobulin M, which thickens the blood and is documented as a fatal disease. I would like your help please. Carol, Dunedin.

Q - I do hope you are able to offer some advice. My mother has Waldenstrom's disease, an overproduction of immunoglobulin M, which thickens the blood and is documented as a fatal disease. I would like your help please.

A – Waldenstrom's disease or macroglobulinaemia can be described as a cancer of the B lymphocytes, which causes an overproduction of monoclonal macroglobulin (the IgM antibody). I can't pretend I know much at all about this disease, because as naturopaths we go by symptoms, not a medical diagnosis, but will reiterate the little I do know, plus a few thoughts.
