Sugar is found in more foods than fruit and lollies. It is being added to tinned foods, such as tomatoes, to healthy muesli bars, that hold all those heart-healthy grains and nuts together that the body uses as energy in yoghurts and even condiments like peanut butter.
Health professionals have been advising us to read the labels on food packaging for awhile now so we know exactly what we are eating, but with all the buzz words that include ‘fat free’ or ‘low fat’ and ‘97% fat free’, no wonder many of us get lost in translation and then wonder where those extra kilos came from. A big part of the answer lies in the range of sugars; while fats are the friends to low-carbohydrate diet followers and carbs the foe, but what about the hidden sugars?
