Few things give me more pleasure than waking up to bird song - the call of the tui, the clear notes of the bell bird and the chirping of many others that complete the early morning choir.

Few things give me more pleasure than waking up to bird song - the call of the tui, the clear notes of the bell bird and the chirping of many others that complete the early morning choir.

However, it doesn't stop there. Life goes on, and soon the bees will be working away and the cicadas will be screeching in the heat of the day. Life can be busy out there in our garden jungle, especially if there are a few native plants to encourage passing butterflies, bees and other nectar and pollen feeding insects to visit them. Coming down to the earthy level, you will also notice the evidence of a hedgehog's presence, as well as tiny insects and spiders. Throw in a small pond, and you have the local frog population keeping an eye on the kingfisher birds regular visits.
