Our land soils are consistently found to be depleted in the mineral magnesium. Quite apart from the gene tinkering crops, it has been further depleted in plant’s by the use of excessive potassium and phosphorous laden fertilisers which alter the plant’ ability to take up magnesium.
Approximately 50 per cent of total body magnesium is found in the bones, the other half is found predominantly inside cells of the body tissue and organs. Only 1 per cent of magnesium is found in the blood, but the body works very hard to keep magnesium blood levels constant. We are frequently reminded of obesity, diabetes and resulting cardiovascular disease that are an ever-growing concern for sufferers. While these health issues don’t help, there is an essential factor in this complaints that is often overlooked and that is magnesium, magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and is essential for balanced health.
