The humble maca root has grown wild in the Peruvian Andes for many centuries, a place that is noticeable for the diverse plant life that grows in the nutrient rich soil.

Even if the altitude leaves one gasping due to low levels of oxygen the amazing things is this plant, it is where the maca grows in the plateau, 14,000 feet above sea level Native Peruvians have used maca, a root vegetable shaped like a radish, for several thousand years as a food item and medicinally to enhanced energy, fertility and libido.

This mazing Peruvian food has certainly stood the test of time, in fact over 10,000 years! It was in the 1960’s to 1980 when German and Northern American scientists began researching Peruvian botanicals in Peru, that the interest in maca was rekindled and the research uncovered amazing results.
