Learning Barrier - Irlen Syndrome
Children and adults with Irlen Syndrome put more energy and effort into the reading process, whether it be the words, numbers or musical notes, because they see the printed page differently from a proficient reader

Irlen Syndrome is a visual-perception dysfunction, principally affecting reading and writing based activities. A complex and variable condition, it is not off itself a learning difficulty in the accepted sense, rather it is often found to co-exist with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, reading problems and/or various development delays.

Research has shown that sufferers could have a defect in one of the viewing pathways that carry messages form the eye to the brain. This causes a timid fault in processing information, which means letters and words appear to blur, jump off the page or become fused.  Symptoms of the syndrome may remain under detected by standard visual and medical examinations, educational and psychological evaluations, plus other school related tests.
