One of the earliest foods known to mankind is today found bottled in the condiments section of the supermarket. Usually found near olives and sun-dried tomatoes, capers had become a forgotten food, but are now staging a comeback as people realise what an addition to cooking that they are, and how they play a role in a healthy diet.

Capers are the immature flower bud of the caper bush, native to the Mediterranean basin. It is thought that the caper bush originated around the Middle East, but they are now grown from the entire Mediterranean coast west to the Canary Islands, Morocco and into Iran. More in the main article.
