If we consider the promoted, but simplified version of the ‘Healthy Food Pyramid’ mentioned previously, we are supposed to get the bulk of our nutrients from breads and cereals, preferably whole grains.

The opening paragraph of the ‘Food and Nutritional Guidelines for Healthy Adults’, the Ministry of Health background paper, states: “Good nutrition, physical activity and maintaining a healthy body weight are fundamental to health and to the prevention of disease and disability”. The guidelines provide six key statements and focus specifically on nutrition, but are the guidelines healthy enough?
