I’m not sure when I began to suspect migraine instead of another ‘24hour bug’ in my son Alex, but somewhere along the line, I noticed a pattern developing.

What is a migraine?

'Migraine' is derived from the Greek word meaning, pain involving half of the head. The nature and causes have puzzled Hippocrates and have been the subject of argument ever since. Through personal experience, and researching the writings of noted British neurologist Dr Oliver Sacks and others, I have come to understand that migraine is far more than just a headache.

Alex's doctor described his condition as 'hypersensitivity of the cranial artery'. However, Dr Sacks considers vascular and chemical (at least half a dozen neurotransmitters are involved in migraine) changes to be secondary to neurophysiological disturbances in brain stem activity.
